Position: Reporting to the Manager, Facilities & Transit, the Transit Analyst supports the division and is responsible for the day to day activities related to the current service, infrastructure and future development of the CVRD transit service. The Transit Analyst researches, analyzes, and prepares reports and communication materials; develops and checks service benchmarks; ensures the bus stops/shelters/benches and signage are maintained; and markets transit initiatives.
Qualifications: Degree or two year diploma from a recognized university or college in transportation, planning, civil technology, business administration or a related field. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. Five years of related experience. Preferably this experience is with public transit, transportation or urban planning in a local government setting. Experience: writing reports; presenting to the public and committees; preparing grant applications; and with financial analysis and research. Experience working with or knowledge of provincial transit agencies (i.e. BC Transit) is preferred. Applicants must have knowledge of transportation planning principals and practices and of Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure requirements for public transit in electoral areas. Knowledge in the following areas is considered an asset: local government practices and processes; Content Management Systems (CMS), Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) and web/social media protocols; and knowledge of the Cowichan Valley Region. Ability to: communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with an understanding of the special requirements of writing for the web and social media; work with a diverse group of stakeholders and service partners and to address inquires and complaints in a proactive and efficient manner; perform research, analysis, make recommendations, and prepare professional reports; create presentations and to assist with presenting information to diverse audiences; and to work with limited supervision in a self-directed and motivated way. Applicants must be proficient in Microsoft Office, hold a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and be able to work a variable work schedule that may include some evenings and weekends.
Hours of Work: The hours of work are 35 hours per week Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position may be required to attend some evening and weekend meetings.
Salary: This regular full time union position (CUPE Local 358) has a salary range in three steps - $40.75 - $41.96 - $43.21 per hour (2018 rates). A comprehensive benefits package is offered with this position.
