The City of Dawson Creek invites applications for the position of Water Resource Manager, starting as soon as possible. This full time permanent position will be of interest to individuals who wish to join a busy team in a bustling community located in resource rich Northeastern BC. The City of Dawson Creek is undergoing change, with a commitment to retain or improve the quality of life for its residents.
Reporting to the General Manager of Development Services, the Water Resource Manager will be responsible for leading and supervising departmental staff at the municipal water and wastewater treatment plants and management and oversight of all water resources. The Water Resource Manager will also oversee a newly created Project Manager position; the Project Manager will be involved in all City capital infrastructure projects.
Duties will include, but are not limited to: management of a multi-million dollar operational budget; collection, analysis and reporting of statistical data related to the operation of the raw water supply, water treatment and wastewater treatment systems; documentation of the City’s water rights and license; development and updating of City’s Water Supply Plan; oversight and monitoring of all programs and initiatives of the Water and Environmental Department; acts as City liaison between the City, Federal and Provincial regulatory agencies, stakeholders and residents. Mentor, lead, and support the Project Manager through annual project identification, budget process, and project completion.
As a preferred candidate, you will have a degree in civil engineering, water resource engineering, hydrology or a closely related field, 5 years related work experience and management and supervisory experience. Must have experience in managing large capital projects and working with multi-disciplinary teams. Excellent interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills are essential for communicating with the public, elected officials, and other government agencies. The successful candidate must have the ability to: manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously; Knowledge of water rights laws and regulations pertaining to surface water resource development; administration and management. The candidate must also be familiar with common business software and SCADA and hold a valid driver’s license.
