Director of Fire and Emergency Services

The City of Cranbrook is recruiting for the position of Director of Fire and Emergency Services. Reporting to the City’s Chief Administrative Officer, the incumbent is responsible for the overall direction of the Fire and Emergency Services Department, and is responsible for continuous coordination, development, training and improvement of all departmental services. Responsibilities include strategic planning, personnel, labour relations, fiscal planning, emergency response preparedness, emergency medical response program, and wildland urban interface program.

The qualifications for this position include:

Certifications:
  • Certification to the level of Fire Officer III from a recognized accrediting organization, or combination of other equivalent training and experience.
  • Class 5 BC Driver’s License with Air Endorsement.
  • Local Assistant to the Fire Commissioner Certificate.

Education
  • Post secondary degree/diploma in a related field or equivalent experience and qualifications.
  • Advanced education component for fire training and wildland fire training.

Experience:
  • Ten (10) years as a First Class Fire Fighter.
  • Wildland Urban Interface Development.
  • Full understanding of First Responder Program.
  • Experience with Emergency Medical Responder program is preferred but not a requirement.

Specific Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to be a leader and risk manager that is action/outcome oriented with strong ethics and integrity.
  • Ability to build teams and be a team player.
  • Proven leadership and discipline skills
  • Excellent communication and Public Relations skills
