Manager, Cultural Development

The City is seeking a progressive forward thinking leader, who believes leadership is about empowering staff and embracing the art of giving people a platform for spreading ideas that work, someone who possesses outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills with a broad range of experience. The successful candidate skill set will include an open, team-oriented leadership style and a proven ability to determine and assess arts and cultural needs, trends and opportunities within a community and to plan and coordinate municipal arts programs and events. It is essential that  the Manager of Cultural Development is able to develop and maintain positive relationships with a wide variety of internal and external customers and that he/she is able to demonstrate a distinguished customer service philosophy.
The Manager of Cultural Development is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating and overseeing arts and cultural programs, events, commercial filming, citywide arts activities and cultural community partnerships. This position assists in the development of policies, procedures, goals, objectives, strategies and liaises with community groups, businesses and individuals to foster the development of new arts and cultural programs and events. The Manager of Cultural Development provides leadership by facilitating arts and cultural strategic planning workshops, overseeing multi-use recreation facilities and ensuring the proper maintenance of the permanent art collection and managing program staff engaged in the work and overseeing contract instructors and volunteers.
Qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts Administration, Art History, Fine Arts, Cultural Planning or a related field, supplemented by sound related administrative and supervisory experience in arts administration or cultural development; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. In addition, you must have a valid BC driver’s license.
