This position is located in Victoria, B.C.; other Ministry Regional Office locations may be considered, subject to the successful candidate’s current location and Ministry operational requirements. This position is also posted as a Policy Analyst Science 30R via Requisition 51677.
The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development [FLNRORD] is responsible for stewardship of the province’s public land and natural resources. The Resource Stewardship Division consists of five branches: Fish and Aquatic Habitat, Resource Planning and Assessment, Species at Risk Recovery, Water Management and Wildlife and Habitat and administers several acts and associated regulations including the Land Act, Water Sustainability Act, Wildlife Act, and others. Land use planning provides strategic land use objectives and associated direction for forestry, energy development, ecosystem protection, recreation activities and other resource use decisions. The Planning Policy Team Lead is responsible to guide the development of ministry and/or provincial land use planning policy, standards, regulations and/or practices for the Land Use Planning Program that are critical to the achievement of priority goals and objectives.
Qualifications for this role include:
- Master’s Degree in planning, natural resource management, or a related discipline [e.g. forestry, agrology, etc.] and 3 years’ related experience; OR,
- Bachelor’s Degree in planning, natural resource management, or a related discipline [e.g. forestry, agrology, etc.] and 5 years’ related experience.
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a fully licensed professional with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area [i.e. Association of Forest Professionals, Institute of Agrologists, Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists]. Note: immediately eligible is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable Canadian jurisdiction within 6 months of employment.
