Supervisor, Parks
(Turf, Sports Fields, Cemetery and Trails)


The Engineering, Parks, and Environment Department requires a regular full-time Supervisor, Parks (Turf, Sports Fields, Cemetery and Trails).
 
In this leadership role you will report to the Section Manager, Parks Operations and be responsible for skilled supervisory work coordinating, directing and participating in the work of crews engaged in a variety of operations, maintenance and construction tasks in the Turf Section of the Parks Branch.    
 
The work involves construction, repair and maintenance of the City’s Parks, Turf areas, Sports Fields, Irrigation Systems, Cemetery and Trails.
 
You will plan, assign, coordinate and supervise the work of skilled trades and other workers, ensuring performance standards/specifications and safety procedures are met.  You will also prepare cost and time estimates, monitor budget expenditures, and participate in the development of annual work schedules, operating and capital budgets, and long-range plans.  In addition, you will establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts, receive and resolve service requests and complaints from the public and other departments, prepare and maintain records/reports, and order materials/equipment.
 
You are known for your excellent leadership and supervisory skills, along with a demonstrated knowledge of safety procedures and processes.  You will have completed Grade 12, supplemented by a degree or diploma in park operations, turf management, horticulture or a related field, along with considerable related work experience, preferably in a supervisory capacity.  A related Trades Qualification in Turf Grass Management would be an asset.  A thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, procedures and materials, tools and equipment used in parks operations, turf maintenance, sports field maintenance and construction tasks, is required.  You will be proficient with Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft and Infor Public Works, or similar Financial and Asset Management systems.  A current Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License are also required.
 
Salary:
$40.60 per hour
(January 2018 rates)                                                                                                    
 
Hours of Work:
8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
