Communications Coordinator

Join the Peace River Regional District team in the mighty Peace Region of northeastern BC – world renowned for our friendly people, spectacular outdoor recreation and linkages to the Yukon and Alaska. The Peace River Regional District includes four electoral areas and seven member municipalities, with a total population of approximately 63,000, covering a vast 120,000 square kilometers.

The Regional District is seeking a qualified individual to perform duties in support of the communications department’s strategic plan, in addition to providing administrative support.  Working from the Fort St. John office and reporting to the Manager of Communications, the Communications Coordinator will assist in the implementation of the communication needs of the Board, staff and PRRD departments, including supporting the graphics component for outreach materials, posters, and online communications. This position supports the coordination of social media campaigns, videos, community engagement, meetings, mail outs and events. The Communications Coordinator will assist in the implementation of Board, Electoral Area Directors and department’s communication plans, the dissemination of media releases, backgrounders, and other media communications as directed, and support staff on website and internal intranet, at external events and meetings.  

The ideal candidate will have a diploma or certificate in communications, including courses in print production and/or graphic design, and three (3) years related experience, preferably in a local government setting, in communications - with the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines. Sound working knowledge of Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat Outlook, and project management software, and familiarity with PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign and WordPress is an asset. High-level verbal and written communication skills are essential. Proof-reading skills and the ability to compose and edit correspondence reports and documents with a high attention to detail is necessary. An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience will be considered.

Pursuant to the Collective Agreement, the after probation wage rate for this position is $35.50 / hr. The applicant will be asked to provide a Class 5, BC Driver’s License abstract.
