Reporting to the Operations Coordinator you will be responsible for performing routine repairs and minor maintenance duties on refrigeration and ice making equipment; performing building maintenance and janitorial tasks; performing building security duties; assisting in or independently enforcing rules and regulations governing public skating, hockey spectators and related activities; giving assistance to public, teams and groups using the facilities; enforcing arena rules and regulations and supporting program service delivery. Considerable independence of judgment and action is exercised within established practices and procedures, with performance reviewed by a superior for technical adequacy, conformance to established practices and ability to meet time schedules. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include up to high school graduation plus completion of technical courses leading to an Ice Facility Operator’s Certificate plus sound related experience in ice-making operations and building services work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in ice-making and refrigeration operations. Sound knowledge of the materials, methods, tools and equipment used in janitorial and building maintenance work. Ability to operate ice-making, refrigeration, and surfacing and cleaning equipment; to perform routine repairs and minor maintenance duties; and to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff and the public, and to deal tactfully and firmly with groups and individuals to ensure observance of rules and regulations. Skill in the use and care of a variety of tools and equipment used in the work. Required licenses and certificates include a Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia, Ice Facility Operator’s Certificate and St. John’s Emergency First Aid or equivalent. Arena Ice Maker’s Course Certificate and Building Service Worker Certificate would be assets.
Three temporary full-time positions are available:
- August 13, 2018 to March 19, 2019 (Bill Copeland)
- September 17, 2018 to March 24, 2019 (Bill Copeland)
- August 20, 2018 to March 17, 2019 (Kensington)
