We are looking to recruit an auxiliary Traffic Assistant for our Engineering Department. The Traffic Assistant is a field and office technical and clerical position which will perform work related to the investigation of traffic complaints, analysis of traffic movement, distribution, volume and information. Additionally, the Traffic Assistant reviews and approves a variety of applications, composes correspondence and reports, prepares work orders and simple diagrams and sketches, and maintains related databases, files and statistics and provides information to the public on traffic bylaws. The successful incumbent in this position will need to be able to work independently and exercise judgment when carrying out the required work. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications needed for this role include the completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses in traffic technology or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Working knowledge of the practices, methods, techniques and equipment used in traffic engineering operations; and of municipal street layout and of the rules and regulations governing traffic engineering and control operations. Ability to deal effectively with the public and community groups on matters related to the work; and to obtain, summarize and interpret data and prepare reports and correspondence. Skill in the operation and maintenance of equipment used in the work. Experience in engineering projects is considered an asset for this role; as well as experience with Hansen work orders and service requests along with SAP inventory control. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
The ideal candidate will be available for shifts weekdays between the hours of 6:00 AM and 4:30 PM.
The starting wage is $26.91 per hour, plus 12% in lieu of benefits.
