Reporting to the Coordinator Recreation Programs, this is recreation leadership work in the organization and implementation of a variety of activities at Bonsor Recreation Complex supervising part-time staff, contract instructors and volunteers. Prepares and leads individual program plans for and assists supervisor to schedule activities; assesses program results and recommends changes as necessary. Promotes interest and participation in program activities and establishes and maintains close liaison with community groups and the general public; prepares promotional material and addresses various groups regarding program offerings; provides guidance, advice and referrals as required to the public, reviews program offerings and makes recommendations as to new programs.  Prepares and maintains records, activity reports and requisitions; and maintains equipment and supply inventories. Enforces rules and regulations and ensures standards of behaviour and safety are maintained. Participates in the recruitment of and gives guidance and instruction to one or more part-time recreation program staff and contract instructors, evaluates same and makes recommendations for hiring, rehiring or dismissal of same; and recruits, trains, directs and evaluates volunteers. Assumes responsibility for the operation and security of the centre.  Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of two year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College and preferably some related experience, or completion of grade 12 supplemented by courses in recreation and sound related community recreation experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Sound knowledge of the recreational, social, and cultural interests and requirements and resources of the Centre. Working knowledge of organized community recreation principles and practices; and of sports, crafts, arts related to various recreational, social and cultural programs.  Ability to organize, coordinate, participate in and provide leadership in recreational, social and cultural program activities; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contract instructors, volunteers, groups, associations and the general public; to participate in the recruitment of and give guidance and instruction to part-time staff and contract instructors and to recruit, train, direct and evaluate volunteers; and to prepare and maintain related records, reports and promotional material. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia, First Aid and CPR Certificate – Level C are required.
