We are seeking an individual with outstanding communications skills and comprehensive knowledge of trucking services and container terminal operations
The Office of the BC Container Trucking Commissioner (“OBCCTC”) has an average annual budget of approximately $975,000 and consists of the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Registrar, four to five contracted auditors, and several contracted investigators. The OBCCTC’s offices are located at 1085 Cambie Street Vancouver, B.C. The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure also provides administrative support to the OBCCTC. Established under the province’s 2014 Container Trucking Act, the Container Trucking Commissioner oversees the container trucking industry in the Lower Mainland and enforces compliance with the Act, issues Container Trucking Services licenses within the Truck Licensing System and facilitates ongoing policy and regulatory review.
The Deputy Commissioner is responsible for supporting the Commissioner’s oversight of the Metro Vancouver drayage industry, as well as managing day-to-day operations of the OBCCTC and other duties as required. The Deputy Commissioner role provides critical support to the Commissioner, and the position requires a unique set of skills and expertise given the complex regulatory environment within which the OBCCTC operates. The Deputy Commissioner must possess good judgement, strong communication skills, the ability to manage challenging issues, and to demonstrate credibility and generate the trust and respect of industry participants, stakeholders and partners.
Qualifications for this role include knowledge of and experience in trucking services operations; knowledge of container terminal operations; experience in and/or knowledge of government licensing structures; experience in issues management across a variety of different types of management/administrative and communications related issues, preferably in a regulatory environment; and experience in conflict resolution.
