The City of Maple Ridge is currently looking for Election Officials for the General Local Election on Saturday, October 20, 2018 to work at various polling stations and advance voting between October 6 and 18, 2018.

Below are the various positions available:
 
ELECTION OFFICIAL (EO):
Election Officials (EOs) assist and support the administration of voting at an assigned polling station. Election Officials work in teams of two, report to the Presiding Election Official and Deputy Presiding Election Official for their polling station and ensure voters participate efficiently in the voting process. Knowledge of and experience with the election process and the election provisions of the Local Government Act will be considered an asset.
 
EOs will be responsible for:
  • Setting up polling station including voting booths, posting signs and notices;
  • Verifying voter’s name on the voters list, making changes to existing registration, registering new voters and verifying identification;
  • Explaining the voting process and issuing ballots;
  • Assisting voters as may be required;
  • Assisting with the packing of equipment and supplies and the closing of the polling station.
 
PRESIDING ELECTION OFFICIAL (PEO):
Presiding Election Officials (PEOs) are responsible for the administration and conduct of voting at an assigned polling station and supervision of election officials at the polling station on general voting day. PEOs ensure that the polling station is safe and accessible, voting procedures are followed correctly, and issues related to voters and candidate representatives are managed and successfully resolved. PEO(s) will possess knowledge of and experience with the election process and the election provisions of the Local Government Act.
 
PEOs will be responsible for working closely with the Deputy Presiding Election Official:
  • Supervising setup of the polling station;
  • Picking up and dropping off equipment and supplies from election headquarters as required;
  • Maintaining contact with and reporting election results to election headquarters;
  • Setting up and closing the vote tabulator.
 
DEPUTY PRESIDING ELECTION OFFICIAL (DPEO):
Deputy Presiding Election Officials (DPEOs) are responsible for assisting the Presiding Election Officials (PEOs) with the administration and conduct of voting at an assigned polling station. In the PEO’s absence the DPEO assumes the duties and responsibilities of the PEO. DPEO(s) will possess knowledge of and experience with the election process and the election provisions of the Local Government Act.
 
DPEOs will be responsible for working closely with the Presiding Election Official:
  • Supervising setup of the polling station, ballot box and all other equipment and supplies;
  • Operation of the vote tabulator throughout the day;
  • Maintaining contact with election headquarters throughout the day;
  • Supervising the packing of equipment and supplies and the closing of the polling station;
  • Assisting the PEO in other duties as required.
 
ADVANCE PRESIDING ELECTION OFFICIAL (APEO):
Advance Presiding Election Officials (APEOs) are responsible for the administration and conduct of voting at an assigned polling station and supervision of election officials at the polling station on general voting day. APEOs ensure that the polling station is safe and accessible, voting procedures are followed correctly, and issues related to voters and candidate representatives are managed and successfully resolved. APEO(s) will possess knowledge of and experience with the election process and the election provisions of the Local Government Act.
 
APEOs will be responsible for:
  • Supervising setup of the polling station, including the vote tabulator;
  • Picking up and dropping off equipment and supplies from election headquarters as required;
  • Maintaining contact with election headquarters;
  • Closing the vote tabulator;
  • Picking up and dropping off equipment and supplies from election headquarters as required.
 
PEOs, DPEOs and APEOs will also be responsible for:
  • Ensuring all tasks at the polling station are completed properly;
  • Supervising election officials and general conduct of the polling station;
  • Ensuring the integrity of the polling station including perimeter checks for political signs placed in    proximity to the polling station and monitoring the use of cell phones;
  • Ensuring compliance with election procedures and rules by all election officials and voters in the polling station;
  • Assisting voters as may be required through the voting process.
 
All successful candidates must:
  • Be 18 years of age or older;
  • Be legally entitled to work in British Columbia;
  • Be responsible for their own transportation to and from their voting place;
  • Attend a mandatory training session;
  • Not be related to any candidate running for office in the general election; and not be actively working for any election campaign or any candidate;
  • All positions are required to attend a 2 hour mandatory training session (date to be determined).
