The City of Parksville is seeking a qualified individual to join our Engineering Department in the permanent fulltime position of Administrative Assistant II. Under the general supervision of the Director of Engineering and Operations or designate, performs a variety of complex and diversified administrative and clerical duties requiring knowledge of the Operations & Engineering Department functions, procedures and policies. The incumbent is responsible for applying specialized knowledge and data to the Operations functions; performing executive secretarial duties for the Department and assists other departmental staff in the performance of their duties, relating to clerical functions and general enquiries, or as directed by the supervisor and performs related work as required. This position includes work of a confidential nature, involving sensitive matters relating to administrative policy, land and development issues or other similar issues. This position requires the ability to work independently exercising initiative using sound professional judgment and will include the training and supervising of junior clerical staff.
 
We are seeking an individual who has extensive knowledge of municipal operations, authority, regulations and procedures and demonstrated knowledge of the Local Government Act, the Community Charter and other related acts, bylaws and policies. This role will provide the greatest satisfaction to a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, excels in the application of modern office practices and understands the complexities of local government. The ideal candidate will have an outstanding attitude and interpersonal skills, be highly organized and technologically savvy, is proficient in using a variety of computer applications and is able to work in an environment with changing priorities and constant interruptions, respond to new challenges and a high volume of work while prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines and handling multiple concurrent tasks.   
 
The ideal candidate will have successfully completed Grade 12, an Administrative Assistant Diploma and postsecondary courses in computer applications plus have five years’ senior secretarial experience, preferably in a local government environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A minimum of five years’ experience in an Engineering and Operations Department, and possession of a valid BC Drivers’ License and a good driving record are also required.  
 
This is a unionized position. The wage rate for the position is $30.74 per hour (January 1, 2018 rate) based on a 40 hour work week in accordance with the current Collective Agreement.
