Our Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department is looking for auxiliary Recreation Leader 1s to work at Edmonds Community Centre, Bonsor Recreation Complex and/or Cameron Recreation Centre. As a Recreation Leader 1 you’ll be working in consultation with a Recreation Program Coordinator and facility staff team to manage issues and emergencies related to all aspects of recreation facility service. As part of the staff team, you will provide courteous, customer-oriented help and support to customers, staff and colleagues by exceeding customer expectations, as well as effectively resolving conflicts and problem situations. Successful applicants will have a genuine interest in working with the public and will be enthusiastic and comfortable working a fast-paced potentially challenging environment. They will possess strong leadership skills, solid and diverse communication skills, excellent public relations skills, and are proficient working effectively with many staff and volunteer teams. The work will also require time management to include projects and in performing other related duties as assigned.
Successful applicants will have completed at least Grade 12, supplemented by post-secondary education, with sound related recreation experience, strong customer service skills, proven public relations and effective communication skills. Working experience with sports and/or other pursuits related to various recreational, social and cultural programs and/or events is required. The ideal candidate will also possess strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
Requirements include experience working with people of all ages, Emergency First Aid (8+ hour equivalent) and CPR ‘C’ certification. Experience supervising staff/volunteers is considered an asset, along with being comfortable working with various computer programs such as MS Word, Publisher and Excel and BCRPA High Five® certification.
Hourly wage: $24.81 + 12% in lieu of benefits.
