Reporting to the Assistant Director, Human Resources the Senior Human Resources Advisor is responsible for providing labour and employee relations expertise in a diverse multi-union environment, which includes handling return to work and accommodation matters, attendance management, and assisting with the preparation and presentation of grievance arbitration cases and other hearing processes. This portfolio will also require knowledge in human rights and experience conducting workplace investigations. In addition, this position will have the opportunity to contribute to the development and presentation of labour relations training modules focused on expanding supervisory leadership skills and toolkits in this subject area. Proven experience is required in developing and delivering practical labour and employee relations training based on best practices and current labour jurisprudence. Performs related work as required.
The ideal candidate brings a balanced perspective to resolving workplace issues and is an exceptional team player with outstanding oral and written communication skills. The ability to build and foster productive relationships with employees, co-workers and union representatives while creating and encouraging an environment of openness, trust and collaboration is essential. Advanced MS Word and PowerPoint skills coupled with sound knowledge of current principles and best practices in labour relations are required. Outstanding coaching, problem solving, planning and organizational skills are needed while working in a high volume, fast paced environment. This is a temporary full time opportunity for one year with possibility for extension.
