The City of Port Coquitlam is accepting applications from enthusiastic, energetic and qualified individuals who are interested in a full-time Development Engineering Technologist position.

This is technical, administrative, regulatory and field work at the sub-professional level in the Development Engineering Division. The incumbent will perform a variety of duties related to land development in both an office environment as well as on a construction site including:
  • administration, review, processing and regulating land development applications which may include subdivision, building, environmental permits, encroachments and utility company permit applications;
  • review and approval of designs related to land development for conformance to a variety of standards, best practice guidelines and regulations;
  • inspection of work performed by contractors, developers, City crews and utility companies on development related construction projects within the City’s rights of way for adherence to and compliance with Engineering standards specified in the subdivision bylaw, regulations, plans, specifications and common construction practice.  

If you are someone who can establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts in our community and if many of the following characteristics and skills describe you then we want to meet you!
  • You have a diploma in civil and structural engineering technology from an institute of technology
  • You have approximately seven years combined experience in design or construction, inspection, and the administration of regulations in a municipal environment (in areas such as land development, environmental, transportation, sewer, waterworks);
  • You have experience in the use of computerized engineering applications; or an equivalent combination of training and experience;
  • You are registered as an Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) with the Erosion and Sediment Control Association of BC and as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT);
  • You are a certified Public Works Inspector 2 (CPWI 2) with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC.

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement. The salary for this full-time position ranges from $69,818 to $79,737 annually (2018 rates) and includes a comprehensive benefit package upon successful completion of a four-month probationary period.
