Manager of Operations

(Permanent full-time position)

The City of Parksville has an opening for a permanent full-time Manager of Operations.
 
We are seeking a qualified individual who wishes to work in a supportive and dynamic atmosphere leading the activities of the operations team within the Operations department. Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Operations, the Manager of Operations will be responsible for overseeing and managing the operation and maintenance of municipal infrastructure including roads, storm drainage, facilities, parks, open space, buildings, fleet and equipment.     
 
This role will provide the greatest satisfaction to a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands the complexities of local government and relishes coaching, team building, developing and leading staff to reach their full potential.  
 
As the ideal candidate, you will have successfully completed Grade 12, and graduated from a technical institute as a Certified Applied Science Technologist or Professional Civil Engineering designation; considerable experience related to municipal engineering and associated technical and operational functions (minimum 10 years); a minimum of five years’ relevant professional experience in a local government setting (preferably in British Columbia) in a managerial position or higher, managing staff in a unionized environment, demonstrating good leadership and supervisory skills and quantifiable experience in employee relations, planning, project management, budgeting and administrative management with extensive knowledge in public works operations. Experience in a unionized or public sector is preferred. In addition, registration as an Applied Science Technologist with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia or Professional Engineer in good standing with the EGBC is required as well as post-secondary training/courses in management.
