It has a thriving four-season events calendar, and arts and culture sector. Whistler was the Host Mountain Resort for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Financially sound and responsive to an engaged mayor and council, this is a high performance municipal organization serving a community of almost 12,000 people and three million annual visitors. As an economic generator that contributes over $1.5 billion annually towards the Provincial GDP, Whistler is key to British Columbia’s tourism economy.

As General Manager of an organization recognized as one of BC’s top employers, you will report to the Chief Administrative Officer and lead the Corporate and Community Services Division, which includes bylaw, fire rescue, emergency program, financial, information technology, recreation services, as well as RCMP and the Whistler Public Library. You will also take a lead role in working with a wide range of partners to promote the economic viability of the resort community.

As the ideal candidate, you have a bachelor degree in Business, Public Administration, Economics, Political Science or a related discipline, a graduate degree in one of these fields will be considered an asset and ten to fifteen years of related work experience gained in a senior leadership and/or strategic capacity. You are an experienced senior leader who has had responsibility for providing effective leadership to high performing, multi-function teams. You are innovative, engaging and have a proven track record in leading, coaching and mentoring staff.

The successful candidate brings exceptional interpersonal, communication and strategic planning skills as well as the ability to inspire confidence in others and build/maintain effective relationships with partners. The General Manager role requires a results oriented individual with strong leadership skills with the proven ability to effectively lead. Additionally, this individual will have the ability to oversee multiple departments simultaneously, work well under pressure to effectively meet deadlines and can establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and key stakeholders. The successful candidate also has a passion for what Whistler has to offer its visitors and residents as well as the dedication to ensure that Whistler continues to be recognized on an international stage as a year round World Class resort destination.

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory drivers abstract and a satisfactory Police Information check prior to beginning employment.
