The Bylaw Services department of the Corporate and Community Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Senior Bylaw Enforcement Officer. Reporting to Bylaw Services Supervisor, this position offers 72 hours bi-weekly starting as soon as reasonably possible.

The Senior Bylaw Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcing Municipal bylaws and providing public education and awareness programs and services in order to ensure the protection of residents, property and employees. As well, this position will provide leadership to lead, train and motivate the Bylaw Services work team; coordinate and conduct investigations; assist other municipal departments with bylaw and enforcement related matters; liaise with a variety of internal and external contacts, including Whistler Animals Galore (WAG); assist in the review and amendment of bylaws as required; and act as a sitting member on several working committees and stakeholder groups.

Qualified candidates will possess a grade 12 diploma, successful completion of JIBC Bylaw Enforcement Levels 1 and 2, conflict resolution courses and demonstrates competency with and knowledge of the Criminal Justice System and Municipal bylaws and policies with at least 3 years of experience in a similar bylaw enforcement and leadership role. Candidates must also have a strong ability to analyze and comprehend laws from an enforcement perspective; knowledge related to the care and handling of animals; demonstrates sound judgment for decision making; and the strong ability to effectively manage conflict situations. Candidates must also be proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite and be capable of effective records management and accurate data entry. Knowledge of the resort community and key stakeholders will be considered an asset.

The successful candidate is customer service focused, approachable and diplomatic and enjoys engaging with the public. They will possess excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills; be a proven analytical problem solver and has the ability to effectively lead a work team and positively contribute to a teamwork environment.

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory drivers abstract and a satisfactory Police Information Check prior to beginning employment.
