We are seeking individuals to work on an auxiliary/casual basis and be able to work day, evening and night shifts including weekends. This is manual work in the cleaning and care of various Parks buildings and premises. Duties include routine attendant tasks in rendering assistance and services to patrons during scheduled events in and around City recreation centres or other Parks buildings. Additionally the ideal candidate will perform a variety of repetitive cleaning, minor maintenance and/or building services tasks such as sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing and polishing floors; vacuuming floors; dusting, cleaning and polishing furniture; cleaning windows; replacing fluorescent tubes and light fixtures; replenishing washroom supplies, moving chairs, arranging tables and performing related tasks. The Parks Janitor also is responsible to sweep sidewalks, clear snow and pick up refuse.
This position will attend to various buildings and sites including unlocking doors, adjust heat controls, and inspect and prepare buildings for daily use. An incumbent will assist us with minor building maintenance and repairs of an immediate nature, such as replacing locks, checking and resetting fire and intrusion alarms to secure park premises, troubleshooting alarms, field light controls and irrigation controls. They may also asses the condition of sports fields in inclement weather; pick up and deliver various items such as barrels, chairs and janitor equipment and assist us with other related work as required.
The ideal candidate will have facility related work experience in a janitorial or custodial role; possess considerable related work experience with the methods, materials and equipment used in janitorial care and maintenance of buildings; be familiar with the general regulations and procedures governing facility operations; as have the ability to perform heavy manual work as well as deal courteously with the public. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia, Class 5, is required.
