The City owned West Kootenay Regional Airport serves a trade area of 100,000 people and has daily flights to/from Vancouver and Calgary, 12,500 annual aircraft movements, and 74,000 annual passengers. The airport is the region’s gateway to the world and an economic development generator.
The City of Castlegar has an exciting career opportunity for a technically strong individual with excellent management skills who is capable of communicating effectively with airport users, staff, contractors, professionals and senior levels of government.
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the successful candidate must be able to lead the Airport team to ensure successful development, management and operation of the WKR Airport, including the airport terminal, groundside and airside. We are seeking an individual who can demonstrate a strong commercial focus, with emphasis on maximizing airport revenues and profits and effective cost-control management. In addition, the successful candidate will build and manage strong relationships and ensure the Airport’s interests are coordinated with senior representatives of various key constituents including the business community, government and regulatory agencies, airlines, vendors, land and airside tenants and consumer groups. As the Airport Manager, you will be accountable for results, outcome, and regulatory compliance and will be the lead on the City’s 2018 West Kootenay Regional Airport Master Plan. In addition, for the right candidate there is the potential for additional operational duties offering career growth potential.

The preferred qualifications and expertise include:
  • A degree/diploma in business / aviation management or equivalent with several years successful management experience, preferably in the airport or airline industries.
  • Solid understanding of airport operations, airport standards and recommended practices.
  • Experience in market related activities to focus on growth and development at the Airport.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal and problem-solving skills with proven ability to promote strong individual and team performance and solid employee morale.
  • Self-motivated, and able to produce high quality results.
  • Financial skills with strong commercial focus.
  • Knowledge and understanding of land use development and leasehold arrangements.
