Section Manager - Parks Operations

The City of North Vancouver has an exciting and challenging regular full-time exempt Section Manager, Parks Operations position to work in the Engineering, Parks and Environment Department.
You will report to the Manager, Parks and Environment in this key position and will lead unionized staff who are responsible for all aspects of the operation and maintenance of city parks, natural areas, and public open spaces and landscape features, including sports fields, artificial turf fields, playgrounds, trails, tennis courts, park buildings, irrigation systems, drainage systems and lighting systems, waterplay area and streetscape features. You will be responsible for an annual operating budget of approximately $3M and will work with the Parks Planning and Design team in the delivery of capital programs and projects.
Your keen awareness of the importance of City parks and open space to the community along with service delivery optimising social, environmental and economic factors will ensure your success in this position.
You are known for your strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, project management expertise, superior communication and interpersonal skills and for your reputation as an excellent manager and leader.
You will have considerable related public works/municipal experience in a supervisory and administrative capacity ideally supplemented by a post-secondary degree or diploma in a related discipline such as landscape architecture, parks, natural resource management or similar. Your demonstrated success in progressive leadership positions is essential along with an understanding of the principles of asset management, and outstanding organizational, planning and, strategic analysis skills. Strong team leadership and superior communication and interpersonal skills, a high work ethic and the demonstrated ability to deal diplomatically and effectively with the public and City Council will ensure your success in this role.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Asset Management software along with familiarity with GIS and AutoCad, along with a valid Class 5 BC Drivers license are required.
