Situated in the heart of majestic Peace River country, this “can do” community is the largest regional service center in north eastern BC, servicing 60,000 people in the area. Paramount to the successful delivery of outstanding services to residents and visitors alike, the City has embarked on a team wide strategic journey to become “the best place to work” to ensure “we deliver” exemplary customer service in the fast paced constantly changing business environment. To meet the increasing demands of the community’s rapid growth and recognizing the need to provide the very best of leisure services to residents and visitors alike, the City is looking to attract a strategic leader as General Manager of Community Services to round out the City’s Executive Leadership team.
Reporting to the City Manager and providing support to City Council, as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team you will provide strategic direction to the Community Services Division. Specifics include: Leisure Services (including the North Peace Leisure Pool contract), Visitor Information Services, Recreation and Recreation Programming, Facilities and Grounds Maintenance (including Parks, Playgrounds and Trial systems). Managing a multimillion dollar budget and leading a team of professional Directors, Managers and staff, you will hold responsibility for the formulation and delivery of Community Services strategies for the division ensuring alignment with the overall city strategic plan. As General Manager you will attend all Council meetings and ensure departmental reports presented to Council meet the objectives of the corporation and contain appropriate and accurate information such that Council is able to make sound business decisions.
In addition, you will hold accountability for customer service policy and procedure that guarantees best of service practices to a wide variety of city clients both internal and external.
Ideally you will have a University Degree in Business Administration, Recreation or Public Administration coupled with 6 to 10 years in a senior management role in parks, recreation or major facilities management within a municipal setting. You are a “big picture” leader, tactical problem solver, deal effectively with competing priorities and are well respected for your ability to work well under pressure. You are an experienced strategic departmental leader known for your ability to execute and deliver results on time and within budget. You have managed multimillion dollar operations and are known for your ability to build award winning teams fully committed to customer service excellence. Your public speaking abilities and impeccable people skills are your trademark and you deal effectively with all levels of clients both internal and external, staff and Council. You have experience managing diverse teams in a unionized environment and are well respected for your professionalism, commitment and passion for the services you provide.
