Director of Engineering & Public Works

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and have proven experience in a local government setting. This candidate will also display demonstrated skills in both engineering and community planning roles.

This position reports directly to the Chief Administrative Officer. As a key member of the Management Team, and working with a very positive and progressive Council, the Director provides strategic leadership to the Engineering and Public Works divisions. The Director is responsible for the overall supervision of the workforce assigned for maintenance operations of the community and for community development and planning.

The preferred candidate will have Certification as an Engineering Technologist, together with a minimum of five years’ experience in a management and supervisory role in a municipal public works or similar setting. The successful candidate will display knowledge of municipal engineering and operations; including construction and operation of such services as streets, drainage systems, sewage collection systems and water distribution systems; airport and cemetery operations; and understand land development approval processes, as this position also performs the function of Approving Officer. The successful candidate will have strong organizational, leadership, interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively with elected officials and appointed staff in a Team environment.

A competitive salary in the range of $94,000 to $99,000 and an extensive benefit package is offered. Additional incentives include relocation expenses; and five paid flex days in addition to an annual vacation allowance.
