Parks Worker I
Temporary Full Time Positions
(Up to 9 months)
The Parks Division is seeking multiple temporary full time Parks Workers to perform a variety of manual tasks in the maintenance of park areas in any of the following sections: Urban Forestry, Horticulture, Natural Areas, Construction and Maintenance Sections. The Parks Worker I will perform horticultural, natural areas, and urban forestry activities such as planting, watering, pruning, weeding, propagation, general plant heath care and integrated pest management for turf and a variety of native and non-native plant and tree species. Other tasks related to carpentry and landscape construction include the installation and structural maintenance of playgrounds, buildings, bridges, stairs, signs, furniture, structures, parking lots, landscape areas, drainage, trails, and other parks related infrastructure.
Requirements include Grade 12 or equivalent; one accredited course related to the work common to the Parks Division from a recognized post-secondary institution; six months previous experience in the works of a Parks Division; B.C. Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate; valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence and satisfactory police information check. Candidates with an equivalent combination or education and experience may be considered. The successful candidates will be required to work Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
These are C.U.P.E. Local 2011 positions with a wage of $27.56 per hour plus 13% in lieu of benefits. Job description and competition information can be found at www.saanich.ca.
