The City of Coquitlam is looking to hire auxiliary Communications Operators to complement existing staffing levels. If you are interested in civilian police work, this may be the job for you! In this position, you will work in the Police Operational Communications Center. You will operate police communications equipment to determine call priority, respond to 911 emergency/non-emergency calls, control deployment and dispatch police in response to calls for service. Accuracy of work is key in taking reports and creating files.

To be successful, you will need to be familiar with the Criminal Code of Canada, the Motor Vehicle Act, and other appropriate by-laws and regulations; considerable knowledge is required of police radio, computer operation and RCMP processes. You have a minimum high school diploma, courses in computer keyboarding and dispatcher experience. Poised and tactful in stressful situations, you possess sound judgment as well as excellent listening, communication and decision-making skills. Must obtain and maintain an Enhanced RCMP Security Clearance.
