Mechanic “A” West Vancouver Blue Bus (Transit)
West Vancouver Transit (Blue Bus) has current openings for Permanent Full-time Transit Mechanic “A” positions.
The successful candidates for this position are required to have and retain the following certifications: Interprovincial or British Columbia Certificate of Qualification in Automotive Mechanic, Commercial Transport, or Heavy Duty Vehicle Mechanic; and, Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate; and, Class 1, 2 or 3 Driver’s License with Air Brake endorsement.
Candidates who have not yet achieved but have interest in obtaining the above qualifications and certifications are encouraged to apply. Candidates under the following circumstances may be considered:
- Automotive/Heavy Duty/Commercial Transport Apprentices;
- Candidates who have not yet acquired a Class 1, 2 or 3 Drivers License with Air Brake endorsement.
This is commercial transport/heavy duty mechanical work at the journeyman level, involving overhaul, repair and maintenance of heavy-duty equipment in the shop or in the field. The preferred candidate will possess current knowledge of diesel engine with electronic control, transmission with electronic control & a good understanding of electrical systems as well as a willingness to work shifts. A minimum of five years' relevant experience is preferred and possession of own hand tools is a must. Oxy-acetylene and welding courses or experience are considered an asset.
During the assessment process, successful candidates will be required to submit an acceptable Driver’s Abstract and Claims History from ICBC. The successful candidate is required to supply a criminal record check and a copy of their credentials.
ATU (Union) – Permanent, Full-time
Hours of Work:
40 hours per week
4 days on / 3 consecutive days off (consistent workweek and schedule)
Rate of Pay:
$35.98 per hour (Plus $0.80 per hour tool allowance – apprentices begin at 70% of the journeyman rate)
Effective April 1, 2018 the rate of pay will increase to $37.11 per hour
Plus: $1.65/hr shift differential for afternoon shifts and Sunday pay premiums
