A flexible, family-friendly employer with an inclusive work place culture, we are looking for a senior leader to provide strategic leadership to the District’s high performing Fire and Rescue Services and join our dynamic executive team. A diverse region ranging from residential, commercial, and heavy industry to waterfront, river canyons, parks and wildland, this uniquely situated district operates five fire halls staffed by six Chief Officers, 120 firefighters, a fire prevention and public education team, a Proboard accredited training division, and an administrative support team. We are seeking a visionary and collaborative leader to provide professional oversight to the day to day operations of the Fire department. Reporting to the CAO, working closely with members of the executive, and acting as an advisor to Council on fire and rescue issues, you will plan strategically for the future needs of our community and ensure DNVFRS continues to deliver exceptional suppression, rescue, medical response, prevention, and public education services for residents.

A communicator and a team player who works well with multiple stakeholders, you have a unique balance of strategic and operational skills and the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure. Politically astute, you can handle multiple priorities, work within tight timelines and provide exemplary leadership and direction to a large, complex department. You have the ability to use data to conduct technical analysis; develop sound strategic plans; write and present reports; and establish effective working relationships with members of your department. Your judgement and time management skills are strong, you have excellent people management skills, and you are able to find practical solutions to complex problems.

You have a diploma or degree in fire science, management, public/business administration, and emergency management or a related field as well as progressively senior administrative and command experience within a Fire Rescue department. Fire Officer 2 or 3, ICS or Blue Card certification, Emergency Scene Management and EOC training are required. You have sound knowledge of municipal, provincial and federal regulations and bylaws. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

The District offers a competitive total compensation package and exceptional professional development opportunities. If you have what we’re looking for and enjoy working in a fast paced environment with a team of dedicated individuals, we want to hear from you.
