2010 CAMA E-Brief Partner:
December 1, 2010
AonHewitt - CAMA's newest Partner!
Jim Toye brought greetings to the LGANT Conference in October. Jim was warmly welcomed by LGANT President John McKee, CAO Hamlet of Ft. Liard (pictured above). Approximately 75% of LGANT’s membership and number of Territorial Government staff were present for the informational and education packed sessions. Opening Keynote speaker, Michael Kerr, spoke on the importance of humour in the workplace.
Other topics included Designing a Performance Measure Process for staff and Recruitment and Retention initiatives. A session on the Territorial Governments Strategy on Greenhouse Gas and each individual program available to the municipalities provided insight for many of the attendees. Former Deputy Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs and Human Resources of the GNWT, Debbie DeLancey, spoke about partnerships and how important it is for municipal, territorial and federal governments to meet regularly to talk about their respective needs. She stressed the importance that each must work together to ensure the interests of all three levels of government are addressed for the betterment of all.
Pension Portability is a hot topic in our industry. Making the decision to change employers is never easy. There are many complex issues to consider. While salary is the obvious consideration, the accompanying benefits package is also an extremely important part of your compensation. Aon Hewitt has put together a Checklist to assist you in unraveling the key differences between the pension plan of your existing employer and the pension plan of your prospective employer. Recognizing that an employer's pension plan may not necessarily "make or break" your decision to change jobs, it is important that you understand the pension implications of your career move as you will need to update your retirement planning. You will have questions such as: Will I be able to retire sooner or later? Will my pension be higher or lower? Will I have to commit more or less personal savings to my retirement nest egg? By working through this checklist, you will be better informed about these and other pension plan issues. More information is available on the CAMA website in the Members Section. As a CAMA member, you are entitled to one hour of free consultation with a representative from Aon Hewitt to assist you in completing a worksheet and answering related questions. To take advantage of this benefit, please contact Aon Hewitt directly by emailing: CAMA.email@example.com

City of Grande PrairieCrime Prevention: “A safe and supportive community created by empowered citizens”
In 2004, the community of Grande Prairie identified three root causes of crime. Number one was substance abuse; number two was lack of community connectedness; and number three was the breakdown of the family unit. The Community Action on Crime Prevention(CACP) was established to address these issues. Our vision is a safe and supportive community created by empowered citizens. We work with the community by providing education, support, and innovative programs that prevent crime.
CACP works from a grassroots level by partnering with community members, agencies, schools, the RCMP, to deliver programs and initiatives that are community-driven. CACP also brings in speakers on timely community issues, holds conversation cafes to engage and inspire community members, and works with stakeholders and residents to come up with community based solutions on issues relating to safety and crime prevention in their neighbourhoods. In Grande Prairie, a Safe Community is one of the pillars of Council’s Strategic Plan.
Some programs/initiatives include: Report a Drug House, Youth Intervention/Diversion Program, Developmental Assets in Youth, Graffit Wipe Out Day, Bullying and Cyber Safety, Kids and Drugs Training, Prevention of Family Violence Network, and SafeGrowth. CACP also sits on many boards and committees. CACP is committed to supporting community-driven solutions for crime prevention and making Grande Prairiea safer and stronger community.

CAMA Exhibitors: iCompass and Datanet Form A Strategic Partnership.
CAMA Conference Trade Show Exhibitors, iCompass Technologies (iCompass) and Datanet Imaging Systems (Datanet) announced that they have negotiated a joint business agreement to better serve local government and other public agencies across North America. In Canada, Datanet will act in a sales agency capacity on behalf of iCompass. In the United States, Datanet will re-sell, deploy and support iCompass services as a private label. “We are thrilled that a company of Datanet’s experience and reputation has determined that our CivicWeb products represent the most flexible and easy to use solutions to address the meeting management and tracking needs of local governments and public agencies big and small,” said Todd Stone, iCompass President & CEO. “The coming together of our two companies represents a great culture fit of two organizations that are equally dedicated to customer success, integrity and teamwork,” added Stone. “Working together will enable both companies to deliver the most positive outcomes possible for our customers,” said George Sparrow, Datanet Principal. “This relationship really demonstrates what the power of two similar-minded ‘best of breed’ organizations can deliver to customers when working together. By partnering with iCompass, we can expand our municipal offerings and provide our customers with the most innovative and effective solutions at competitive prices. We decided to form this partnership because of the level of integrity we have seen from iCompass, their fiercely loyal and credible customer base, and their inherent ability to mesh consistently with the Canadian government structure,” added Sparrow.
