ICMA Opportunities

CAMA has been contacted by ICMA with respect to some current opportunities in their organization.  Please note that you must be an ICMA member to be considered for these positions.

Third International Vice-President to the ICMA Executive Board
The addition of a third International Vice President to the ICMA Executive Board was approved by the ICMA membership last month.  The constitutional amendments take effect immediately and require appointment by the Board in the first year to achieve a smooth transition to staggered three-year terms.  (The term that the Third Vice President will occupy begins September 2011 and ends September 2014.  The two current International Vice Presidents have terms ending in 2012 and 2013.)

Additional information on the expectations of service for this position including the time and travel commitments, financial commitments, and other responsibilities are available upon request by e-mailing [email protected].  If you are interested in this position, please forward a covering letter outlining your commitment to meeting the expectations of service and your involvement with ICMA and CAMA, and your curriculum vitae, to Ms. Jennifer Goodine, CAMA National Office, via e-mail at [email protected] by March 31st, 2011.  ICMA has asked CAMA to submit two candidates for their consideration.  Any Full member of ICMA who has not served on the ICMA Board and who is currently working directly for a local government would be eligible.   If you require additional information or have questions please don’t hesitate to contact Ms. Betsy Sherman, Director, ICMA Member Services at 202-962-3612 or [email protected].

ICMA Advisory Board on Graduate Education
There is also one vacancy on the ICMA Advisory Board on Graduate Education (a one-year term with the option to renew annually).  Committee members are expected to attend at least one meeting per year and to cover their own travel expenses for attending these meetings; in many cases ICMA provides a Conference Call option.

The Advisory Board on Graduate Education is a member group that meets jointly with professors of public administration for the purpose of enhancing the education of future local government management professionals.  ABGE members are appointed by ICMA's Executive Director and work hand-in-hand with NASPAA's Local Government Management Education Committee, through two subcommittees:  Supporting Managers as Faculty and Filling the Pipeline.  ABGE members have created a number of useful tools for improving the education of future managers, including an Internship Toolkit, Internship Guidelines, and Guidelines for Managers Who Teach, which can be found at icma.org/nextgen.  As noted above, the ABGE meets annually at the ICMA conference on Sunday morning and holds conference calls throughout the year.  If you are interested in this position, please forward your covering letter and curriculum vitae to Ms. Jennifer Goodine, CAMA National Office, at [email protected] by March 31st, 2011.
