CAMA SURVEY ON POLITICAL ACUMEN - DEADLINE NOVEMBER 10TH, 2018

The Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA) has contracted Transitional Solutions Inc. (TSI), a municipal consulting firm based in Edmonton, Alberta to support the development of a Political Acumen Toolkit for the CAMA membership. As you are aware, political acumen has been identified as an important attribute by CAMA members.  The project includes the creation of an online toolkit as well as an interactive online component that will foster mentorship among CAMA membership. To support this, we are currently soliciting input from all CAMA members. Your forthright feedback is critical to developing a toolkit that meets the needs of CAMA members across Canada.   We are looking forward to the launch of the toolkit at the 2019 CAMA Conference in May.

The survey was e-mailed to all members on October 18th and includes the link. Please e-mail Jennifer Goodine at [email protected] if you are unable to locate this e-mail and would like to participate.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. Responses must be submitted by November 10, 2018.

NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR Call for Applications for Municipal Capital Works and Investing in Canada Funding Programs
The Provincial Government is inviting applications for the 2019-20 municipal infrastructure programs. As of October 15, applications are being accepted for funding through the provincial Municipal Capital Works Program and the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.  Municipalities, local service districts, engineering consultants, regional service boards and Inuit community governments, non-profit organizations and other eligible recipients can submit applications by December 21, 2018. Information on submitting applications can be found at www.mae.gov.nl.ca/capital_works/proposed.html.

Under the three-year $100 million municipal infrastructure program, the Provincial Government has invested $10 million in each of the three years through the provincial Municipal Capital Works Program.  The Provincial Government is leveraging all available federal funding through phase two of the Investing in Canada Plan as announced on September 10. The plan allocates $555 million to Newfoundland and Labrador over 10 years under four funding streams: $302 million for green infrastructure; $39 million for community, culture and recreation; $109 million for public transit; and $104 million for rural and northern communities.  New cost share ratios under the Investing in Canada Plan were announced on October 4. These ratios will make it easier for communities to construct roads and build community centres, yet continue to prioritize investments in water, wastewater, disaster mitigation, and regional projects.  Through The Way Forward, the Provincial Government is taking action to strengthen the province's economic foundation, improve efficiency, and deliver better services and better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.
