STATISTICS ON CANNABIS IN CANADA AVAILABLE ONLINE
As recreational cannabis legalization approaches, data on cannabis production, distribution and consumption were made available by Statistics Canada on the Cannabis Stats Hub. Launched on January 25, 2018, the platform presents information on cannabis industry in the country since 1961.  One of the data sources, the Cannabis Economic Accounts, is a set of provisional estimates that will be updated as the agency develops new data sources and improves its methods.  The information is presented by topics such as health, justice and economy for both medicinal and recreational cannabis. Interactive graphs and tables allow the user to filter data according to their interests and to construct their own estimates changing the assumptions. The tool was created in order to measure the social and economic implications of the legalization of cannabis in Canada and can be accessed on the Statistics Canada website.

Lewis Farms Facility and Park - Public Engagement - City of Edmonton
The Lewis Farms Facility and Park is a council-directed project for the schematic design of a community hub in the west end of Edmonton. The project includes a multi-purpose recreation centre, district park, public library and high school completion centre.

The City of Edmonton is transforming the way they engage with citizens. The public engagement for the Lewis Farms Facility and Park used a variety of creative strategies to reach citizens and stakeholders to understand their needs, values and desires. Through an open, interactive and inclusive process, these ideas influenced the vision and design for the facility and park.

Taking place from spring 2015 through fall 2016, the Lewis Farms Facility and Park public engagement dovetails a public engagement process with the design process for a district park and community recreation centre.  From the outset, the City had designated this project to be developed based on consultation and stakeholder feedback so meaningful engagement with Edmontonians was key to success.

The Emerald Crescent: A Unique Approach to Open Space Planning in a Growing Urban Area - City of Edmonton
The landscape in Decoteau, in Edmonton’s southeast corner, includes an intricate web of wetlands and forest patches that provide ecological stepping stones across the landscape - as well as 25% of Edmonton’s remaining wetlands. Sensitive, highly complex and regionally connected, these are the richest ecosystems found within their boundaries, providing countless ecological services and critical wildlife habitat.

In 2015, Edmonton City Council approved the Decoteau Plan, which will ultimately accommodate 75,000 residents. Recognizing both the challenge and the opportunity of planning communities in the context of an ecologically complex landscape, the City of Edmonton and partners came together around a shared vision - and an innovative approach to urban planning.

The result? An outstanding ecological and recreational network. Spanning over 10 km, the ecological/recreational network in Decoteau consists of an integrated system of natural areas, constructed wetlands, schools, parks, greenways and wildlife passages. In all, over 60 open space elements are strategically aligned. It is a network that prioritizes ecological protection and recreation and seamlessly integrates open space with the built environment.

Civic Accommodation Transformation - City of Edmonton
Civic Accommodation Transformation has provided an opportunity for the City to undertake a total re-think of how office work and service to residents are done in the 21st century. Our research and consultation have yielded exciting results in terms of efficient space utilization, improved technology tools and the promise of a more satisfied workforce likely to stay with the City for longer. Bottom line - better use of the taxpayer dollar.

To achieve this, three departments, Real Estate, HR and IT collaborated to create Alternative Work Strategies, which assists the City to drive organizational culture by enabling greater collaboration, flexibility and mobility.  These new ways of working will ultimately reach across all City business units and work groups ensuring the highest quality customer service.
