The 47th Annual CAMA Conference will be held in Fredericton, New Brunswick (the home of the CAMA National office) at the Fredericton Convention Centre from Monday, May 28th to Wednesday, May 30th, 2018.
CAMA has secured a block of rooms at three hotels:
- Hilton Garden Inn (connected to the Convention Centre),
- Crowne Plaza Hotel (directly across the street from the Convention Centre),
- Delta Fredericton Hotel (the overflow hotel) which is a 15 minute picturesque walk on the river trail (from the Convention Centre) or a five minute drive.
The Hilton Garden Inn is a brand new hotel and is still being constructed with an opening date of May 1st, 2018. They are therefore in the process of building their booking website and we hope to have this available to you within the next month. Once this is finished we will be releasing the room blocks to all three hotels at the same time.

La 47e conférence annuelle de l'ACAM aura lieu à Fredericton au Nouveau-Brunswick (siège du bureau national de l’ACAM), au Palais des congrès de Fredericton, du lundi 28 mai au mercredi 30 mai 2018.
L’ACAM a retenu un bloc de chambres à trois hôtels : le Hilton Garden Inn (relié au Palais des congrès), l’hôtel Crowne Plaza (directement en face du Palais des congrès) et le Delta Fredericton (hôtel secondaire) situé à quinze minutes de marche par le sentier panoramique qui longe le fleuve ou à cinq minutes en voiture.
Le Hilton Garden Inn est un tout nouvel hôtel dont l’ouverture est prévue pour le 1er mai 2018. Son site de réservations est aussi en construction et nous espérons que vous pourrez y accéder d’ici un mois. Une fois que le site sera prêt, les chambres retenues pourront être réservées dans les trois hôtels en même temps.

The City of Kitchener, ON has received national recognition for its Digital Kitchener strategy from the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA). The City was presented with the 2017 CAMA Willis Award for Innovation, in the over 100,000 population category, during CAMA’s national conference in Gatineau, QC.
Digital Kitchener is about more than tech; it’s a transformation focused on improving the quality of life for all citizens. Using the power of technology, Digital Kitchener connects citizens to each other, their government and their surroundings. Digital Kitchener’s brave vision defines what a “smart city” looks like for Kitchener through four foundational themes:
- Connected - building smarter infrastructure to become a more competitive, more productive and more attractive place to live and work.
- Innovative - inspiring a community of creative minds to drive change that has meaningful impact.
- On Demand - improving access to open data and online services, when and where users want it.
- Inclusive - improving digital literacy and access so that Kitchener can be a community where no citizen is left behind.
The City has already demonstrated positive results through projects like the expansion of public Wi-Fi, e-services, and the implementation of a new civic innovation lab that will contribute to one of Canada’s first city-wide IoT mesh networks. Over the next three years, Kitchener will continue to build the foundation for a smarter, more connected city.

Municipalities Bring Local Solutions to Reduce Poverty
The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is putting forward local solutions to reduce poverty across the country with formal recommendations for the federal government's promised Canadian Poverty Reduction Strategy. Every day, municipal leaders see how poverty stops people from achieving their full potential. They are building solutions with the tools they have, but ending poverty is a job for all orders of government. FCM's message is that lasting solutions need to build on the frontline expertise of local governments.
ʺWe know that local insight and local actions will help drive poverty reduction. That's why Ottawa needs to engage local governments every step of the way," said FCM President Jenny Gerbasi. "We're bringing local solutions focussed on the supports that help people thrive- from affordable housing and childcare, to affordable transit and rural broadband.ʺ
FCM's submission, Ending Poverty Starts Locally, lays out a roadmap for all governments to work together to build more inclusive communities. Its 12 recommendations include prioritizing social and affordable housing repair and construction, strengthening intergovernmental dialogue and supporting Indigenous peoples in municipalities. ʺAffordable housing is the foundation of strong communities, and it's the key to poverty reduction. To succeed, any national poverty reduction strategy will need to prioritize concrete measures to address the affordale housing crisis across the countryʺ, added Gerbasi.
