FCM’s Ukraine Program Seeks Municipal Volunteers
FCM is implementing a five-year, $19.5 million CAD program in Ukraine. The overall goal of the Partnership for Local Economic Development and Democratic Governance (PLEDDG) is to support long-term social and economic growth and prosperity in Ukraine.

FCM is recruiting municipal volunteers to advise on PLEDDG’s initiatives. Interested individuals and municipalities should review the available opportunities and apply online by Sunday, November 1, 2015

Hotel Room Block for the 2016 Winnipeg CAMA Conference Selling Quickly
The 45th Annual CAMA Conference will be held in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the Delta Winnipeg and Winnipeg Convention Centre from Monday, May 30th to Wednesday, June 1st, 2016.   The Golf Tournament and other Pre-Conference activities will begin on Monday morning with the Conference Program ending after the President’s Dinner on Wednesday evening.
 
The Full Conference Program and on-line registration will be available at the end of February 2016.

CAMA has secured a block of rooms at the Delta Winnipeg Hotel located at 350 St. Mary Avenue, Manitoba’s largest four star hotel located in the new heart of Winnipeg’s downtown (and connected to the Convention Centre by a heated skywalk).    The following special Conference rates will be offered:

Values Are Central To Employee Engagement
Jostle conducted a survey to explore how employees and executives view employee engagement, and shared our findings in a white paper. We observed the strongest predictors of engagement are the level of employee respect for leadership, pride in the company, feeling positive about workplace culture, and a sense that one’s work matters.
 
Organizational values are central to these predictors of engagement.  In a recent interview with WestJet cofounder Don Bell, we discovered how helping people understand and internalize values is key to creating a strong sense of purpose, alignment, and culture. Don also shared how he used a focus on people and stories about WestJet’s values to create an engaged workforce.

Innovative Approach to Professional Development

From vision to execution, the Town of Newmarket’s Progressive Leadership Development Program has created an environment for extraordinary public service.  The Town’s innovative approach includes all levels of the organization wherein employees are trained and developed to be empowered and effective as leaders and employees.

Newmarket believes that an engaged workforce has the ability to deliver even greater results than they believe possible. This means having employees who demonstrate both competency and commitment to the work they do, while delivering cost effective and relevant services to residents.

De sa vision à sa mise en œuvre, le programme novateur de développement du leadership de Newmarket a créé un contexte propice à un service public extraordinaire.   L'approche novatrice touche tous les niveaux de l'organisation municipale. Elle consiste à former les employés et à leur donner les moyens d’être efficaces, qu’ils soient dirigeants ou employés.

La Ville estime en effet qu’un personnel mobilisé peut donner des résultats supérieurs à ce qu'il croyait possible. Comment? En veillant à ce que les employés soient compétents, passionnés pour leur travail et qu’ils offrent des services efficaces et pertinents aux résidents.

L'équipe de leadership stratégique a élaboré sa propre vision de « créer un environnement pour un service public extraordinaire », en marge de la déclaration de vision et de mission de la Ville et des priorités stratégiques du conseil municipal pour la période de 2014 à 2018.

À partir de là, l'équipe a élaboré un plan de ressources humaines, un cadre de préparation organisationnelle, un nouveau processus de partenariat, des outils fondés sur le rendement et un portail d'apprentissage en ligne pour le développement du leadership et un engagement à reconnaître formellement la valeur du personnel.

Cette vision se double d’initiatives qui répondent aux besoins des employés au fur et à mesure de leur développement. Bien que les initiatives et démarches puissent sembler distinctes, elles sont en fait étroitement reliées pour assurer le maintien et le renforcement des valeurs de l'organisation sans négliger les résultats.
