The program and on-line registration for the 2015 Annual Conference being held in Jasper, Alberta from June 1-3, 2015 at The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge will be made available on the CAMA website on Monday, March 2nd, 2015.

CAMA Code of Conduct Review Committee – Request for Members
The CAMA Board of Directors, at its meeting held on November 20th, 2014 struck a Committee to review our current Code of Conduct.  The mandate of this Committee is to provide recommendations to the Board on matters relating to CAMA’s Code of Conduct and any other related policies and guidelines.  The goal of the Committee is to review the Code of Conduct to:
  1. Recommend any changes to the wording of the current Code of Conduct and ensure it is written in a positive manner to be displayed publicly as a certificate for current and future CAMA members.
  2. Conduct an environmental scan of the best practices of other related agencies in relation to their Code of Conduct.
  3. Review the legal obligations of CAMA (if any) should a complaint be filed against a member.
  4. Investigate and prepare a Discussion Paper to recommend (in the short term) what action, if any, that CAMA should take in response to a complaint about a member who may be in violation of the Code of Conduct and also to recommend (in the longer term) if CAMA should consider a formal structure/process for investigating a member who may be in violation of the Code of Conduct.
  5. Determine if there are other ways CAMA should support ethics in local government administration.
The Committee members are Jack Benzaquen (Chair), Jean Savard and Jake Rudolph. The Board would like to have two additional non-board members on the Committee. The Committee work can largely be accomplished by Conference Calls and by e-mail. While the Committee’s work is ongoing, there will be a time commitment of 3-5 hours per month in reviewing material and participating in Conference Calls. As far as possible, committee members will be polled to ensure availability. We expect the work to be completed within one year.

Recherche de membres pour le Comité de révision du code de conduite de l’ACAM
 
À sa réunion du 20 novembre 2014, le Conseil d'administration de l'ACAM a mis sur pied un comité de révision du code de conduite de l’association. Ce comité doit faire des recommandations au conseil sur des questions relatives au code de conduite et à d’autres politiques et lignes directrices connexes. Le comité est chargé d’examiner le code de conduite en vue :
  1. de recommander les modifications à apporter au texte actuel du code de conduite et s’assurer qu’il est rédigé dans un esprit positif, de façon à ce qu’il puisse être affiché publiquement et servir de certificat pour les membres actuels et futurs de l'ACAM;
  2. d’analyser les meilleures pratiques adoptées par d'autres organisations connexes en matière de code de conduite;
  3. de passer en revue les obligations juridiques de l'ACAM advenant qu’une plainte soit déposée contre un de ses membres;
  4. de faire des recherches et préparer un document de travail en vue de recommander : à court terme, les mesures à prendre en réponse à une plainte pour une éventuelle violation du code de conduite; à long terme, la mise en place, ou non, d’une structure ou d’un processus formel d'enquête en cas d’éventuelle violation du code de conduite;
  5. de déterminer s’il existe d’autres moyens pour l’ACAM d’encourager le respect de l’éthique dans les administrations locales.
Les membres du comité sont Jack Benzaquen (président), Jean Savard et Jake Rudolph. Le conseil espère que deux autres personnes, ne siégeant pas au conseil d’administration, deviennent membres du comité. Une grande partie du travail du comité peut se faire par conférences téléphoniques et par courriel. Bien que ce travail s’étale sur une certaine période, nous pensons qu’il faut prévoir de trois à cinq heures par mois pour examiner des documents et participer à des conférences téléphoniques. Dans la mesure du possible, nous vérifierons la disponibilité des membres du comité au préalable. Le travail devrait prendre une année.

FCM Webinar: Infrastructure Asset Management for Cities in Emerging Economies – A Discussion on Local Success Factors

In 2014, FCM initiated a discussion with its partners from Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam to assess the needs of cities for infrastructure planning and financing. Local governments from these countries expressed great interest in the system approach and know-how of Canadian municipalities in infrastructure asset management. A case in point is the experience of the City of Fredericton, documented in a governance brief published by the Asian Development Bank.

The purpose of this webinar is to discuss the success conditions for local governments in developing asset management capabilities, with an eye on the transferability of the Canadian municipal experience to local governments in emerging economies. Grants Available: Parks Canada's National Historic Sites
  

The Government of Canada has announced a new annual grant program of up to $100,000 for municipalities, provinces, or Aboriginal organizations to preserve, rehabilitate, and/or restore components of a designated national historic site.  In preparation for the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, priority funding will be given to projects that are linked to significant national achievements and events such as the 50th anniversary of the Canada Games or the centennial of the battles of Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele.  Applications are due on February 20, 2015.  Further information on the criteria for funding and application forms/guidelines are available on the Parks Canada website (http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/progs/lhn-nhs/ppf-csp/index.aspx)
