Nominations Being Accepted for 2015 CAMA Awards of Excellence Program
The 2015 CAMA Awards of Excellence Program was launched on January 5, 2015 by President Robert Hughes and Board Member and Awards Chairman Jake Rudolph. Experience has demonstrated that CAMA members have every right to be proud when it comes to excellence in municipal management. Year-after-year there are countless examples of outstanding projects and programs designed, developed and implemented in Canadian municipalities to improve the quality of life for citizens.
It’s time once again to start thinking about sharing your achievements and successes with your municipal colleagues, to recognize the work of your employees, and to receive the recognition of your profession. It’s time to prepare a nomination for the 2015 CAMA Awards Program. Nomination packages were mailed out this week and the deadline for applications is February 27th, 2015.
Award winners will be asked to submit a high resolution logo and fifteen to twenty photos of the project to be included in a video. Winners will also be recognized in CAMA’s e-Brief, press releases will be prepared and circulated to the local media, and the CAMA Board member closest to the successful community will also arrange to attend a Council meeting to make the award presentation to your Mayor and Council. The awards will be presented at the CAMA Annual Conference being held in Jasper, Alberta on June 3rd, 2015.
Each year, the CAMA awards program recognizes program excellence in three areas: Environment, Innovation and Professional Development. Because Canada has a unique mixture of small and large communities, awards are granted according to population in three categories: for municipalities with a population under 20,000, for municipalities with a population between 20,001 and 100,000, and for those over 100,000. Three awards are granted in each of the above-noted categories for a total of nine awards. Please note that your award submission will only be accepted in electronic format and should be a maximum of 2,000 words (with appendices not being accepted).
The Professional Development Awards recognizes a community that has developed a unique and innovative professional development program for their staff and can be replicated in other communities. The Environment Award recognizes the commitment of a municipality to environmentally sustainable governance, to protecting the environment and to combating climate change. The Willis Award for Innovation, awarded in recognition of Jack Willis for his contribution to CAMA, is presented for programs, projects or services that demonstrate exceptional innovation or meritorious initiative.
Honourary Membership for Life Award Program Now Accepting Nominations
CAMA is now accepting nominations for the Honourary Membership for Life Award. The award recognizes municipal professionals based on length of service to local government, membership in CAMA for at least ten years, making a significant contribution to CAMA and to their community, as well as outstanding contribution to local government administration and the professional community at the local, regional, provincial or national level.
Past recipients include John Robison, Cy Armstrong, the late Robert Byron, Wes Lancaster, Murray MacLean, Paul Stapleton, Richard White, Bob Linner, Gerard Lewis, Doug Lagore, Cecil Vincent and Jim Toye. The deadline to nominate one of your municipal colleagues for this unique honour is February 27th, 2015. There is no fee to nominate someone. Membership Renewals for 2015-2016 Year
The CAMA membership renewal invoices for the April 1st, 2015 to March 31st, 2016 year were mailed out this week and are due by March 31st, 2015. You can renew your membership online by Visa or Mastercard using your CAMA ID number (noted on your invoice) at http://www.civicinfo.bc.ca/cama/membership.asp or by sending a cheque to the CAMA National Office. AMANB Resiliency Planning Charrette
Municipal leaders and staff from rural and urban municipalities in New Brunswick participated on October 1, 2014 in a Resiliency Planning Charrette organized by the Association of Municipal Administrators of New Brunswick. The goal of the Charrette was to inform, engage, and foster action by participating New Brunswick municipalities toward climate adaptation and resiliency planning, including through the use of assessment tools. An overview and results of the charrette are captured in the Final Report. The results of this Charrette can be used to inform further resiliency planning efforts in New Brunswick and the approach is transferable to other Provinces and Territories.

Les dirigeants municipaux et le personnel de municipalités rurales et urbaines du Nouveau-Brunswick ont participé le 1er octobre dernier à une Charrette de la planification de la résilience organisée par l’Association des administrateurs municipaux du Nouveau-Brunswick. Le but était de renseigner, d’engager et d’encourager la prise de mesures par les municipalités néo-brunswickoises pour améliorer la planification de la résilience et l’adaptation aux changements climatiques en utilisant des outils d’évaluation. Une vue d’ensemble et les résultats sont présentés dans le rapport final. Canadian Infrastructure Report Card (CIRC) Promoting Participation - Deadline January 16th, 2015
All municipalities have been asked to respond to the 2014 Canadian Infrastructure Report Card (CIRC) survey. The second edition of the CIRC survey is now live. This year, in an effort to receive the highest response rate possible, FCM has distributed the survey to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) with the suggestion that they designate a survey coordinator for their response. The deadline for responses has been extended to: January 16, 2015.
The survey is important for determining municipal investment needs and asset management practices across the country. You can contribute by encouraging your municipality to participate.
CUI is the Project Manager for the Canadian Infrastructure Report Card. We are working with representatives from 18 professional membership organizations from across Canada to develop the survey and analyze the results to assess the condition of public

Ann MacLean Award Recognizes Women in Municipal Government
Don’t miss the opportunity to nominate a well-deserved woman for her outstanding contribution to municipal government. Nominations are being accepted for FCM’s Ann MacLean Award which celebrates the achievements of retired female municipal elected officials who have shown exemplary service to their community and constituents, and to mentoring women interesting in running for elected office.
The award will be presented at FCM's 2015 Annual Conference and Trade Show, taking place in Edmonton June 5-8, 2015. The application deadline is January 15, 2015, and should include a biography/CV of up to three pages as well as at least one letter of support from the nominator. For more information:
