Description:

The School Community Connections (SCC) "Strengthening the Connection" funding program is designed to address issues of common concern for Boards of Education and Local Governments such as early learning, physical activity opportunities and healthy eating options that could be addressed in schools if a funding program was available.

Projects must address shared school/community priorities and be supported by both a board of education and local government.

All boards of education and local governments in BC are eligible to apply for funding under this program. One application is required per project and must demonstrate that the project addresses shared school/community priorities and is supported by the board of education, local government, and, where, applicable by community partners. 

Illustrative List of Possible Projects:

Safer, Greener Communities
o Walking school bus/bicycle train programs

Early Learning
o Minor renovations to make school space more accessible to the community
o Purchase of books or equipment

Community Schools
o Minor renovations to encourage community use, such as a keyed entry
o Purchase of equipment to support community programs at the school

Libraries & Literacy
o Purchase of books or equipment
o Community literacy programs

Food Security & Nutrition
o Community kitchens
o Community gardens

Healthy Kids & Families
o Physical activity opportunities
o Intergenerational programming

The maximum grant available is $8,000 and a maximum of 3 applications may be made per Board of Education.

The deadline for applications is March 31, 2009.
