RichmondBC App 2.0 now available for download

City of Richmond
RICHMOND - The new multipurpose “RichmondBC App 2.0” offers even more features to customers along with all of the City’s parks, recreational, cultural and heritage facilities information found in the first version. This upgraded version for iPhones now allows users to create a Wallet Pass to scan their fitness pass rather than carry a card; create a personalized login for a custom view of their registered programs and more easily locate garbage and recycling schedules.

This new app is free to download from the Apple App store and will be a powerful tool for users to discover the many activities offered in City facilities, learn about community events and find details about many local parks.

The App 2.0 will still have direct access to an interactive map with a complete list of all City parks, recreation, heritage and cultural facilities as well as the Richmond Olympic Oval. Users will be able to search the location, history, hours of operation and GPS coordinates of each facility and obtain directions to get there.

Using Apple’s innovative bluetooth low energy technology known as iBeacon, this tool continues to allow users to take self-guided mobile tours of Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site. By simply walking around the Shipyards and accessing location-aware technology at nearby stations, users can have information “pushed” out to them to read and watch on their phones.

The RichmondBC app 2.0 was created through the collaborative efforts of City staff from the Information Technology, Community Services, and Engineering & Public Works divisions, with development work by Richmond-based Opacity Design Group. It is now available to download for free for iPhone devices. An updated Android version is currently in the works and will be released later this year.
