2020 A Vision for the Inclusion of Isolated Mothers in Canada

Mothers Matter Centre
It is all about 20! In October 2020, the Mothers Matter Centre (MMC) is celebrating 20 years of changing lives in Canada. It is about nearly 20,000 low-income newcomer, refugee, Indigenous and other Canadian mothers who have worked with their preschool children 20 minutes a day to ensure their success in school. It is about the journeys of 20,000 Mothers who have overcome unique educational, linguistic, and / or cultural barriers and who share courage and resilience.

The MMC is celebrating its this anniversary with a national conference entitled '2020 A Vision for the Inclusion of Isolated Mothers in Canada' hosted at SFU Harbour Centre. The 2020 A Vision for the Inclusion of Isolated Mothers (VIIM) conference will amplify the voices of mothers who have overcome barriers to inclusion and explore the means of unleashing the power of isolated low-income mothers as a force for social, economic, and political change.

The program will feature the stories of mothers sharing their journeys of being agents of change and highlight the expertise of contemporary researchers, policy-makers, and community practitioners who specialize in gender equality and family wellbeing as they relate to: 1) Education and leadership development; 2) Health, wellness, and safety; 3) Economic security; and 4) Social inclusion.
