The Local Government Management Association of BC is pleased to announce that the fourth edition of the Records Management Manual for Local Government is now available for purchase. The Manual will be printed and shipped in the first quarter of 2012.
The fourth edition includes new categories and subjects added to reflect the business of local government. This edition began as an update to legal and regulatory requirements, but evolved into a major new edition with information about emerging technologies for information creation, including mobile devices, social media sites, cloud computing for information storage, and the impact of these technologies on local government record keeping practices. Within the model classification and records retention schedule, the retention of non-legal requirements have been streamlined in order to facilitate the storage and removal of electronic records. In addition, the classification and retention schedule and a legal citation index are updated and current to December 31, 2011, incorporating all statutory changes in British Columbia.
