The City of Maple Ridge Fire Department is looking for an energetic and highly skilled leader for the newly created position of Assistant Fire Chief – Emergency Program. This position will assist in providing vision and leadership to the City of Maple Ridge’s Emergency Program as part of the Fire Department’s mandate.
As a key member of the management team, reporting to the Fire Chief, the Assistant Chief – Emergency Program will manage all aspects of the City’s Emergency Program. You will have extensive experience with emergency preparedness, mitigation response and recovery plans for major emergencies and incidents. You possess knowledge, training and practical experience in emergency disaster management, Emergency Support Services and the Incident Command System. During Emergency Operations Centre activations, the Assistant Chief reports to the Chief Administrative Officer. This position has a broad range of responsibilities and exercises considerable freedom requiring a high degree of integrity, diplomacy, discretion and confidentiality.
You support and liaise with City staff, and work with other external organizations. Your community engagement and facilitation skills allow you to plan, deliver and evaluate emergency preparedness training for all City staff and external stakeholders.
You will have a bachelor’s degree with preference in Emergency Management or an equivalent combination of formal Emergency Management education and Incident Command or EOC experience as a Section Chief or higher management role. You are a capable leader with excellent critical thinking, budgeting, time management and planning skills. You have exceptional interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated report writing and public speaking capabilities. You have demonstrated public relations and team building skills and experience. Previous experience in an emergency service is considered an asset.
This position requires you to have a current Class 5 Drivers License and a satisfactory criminal record check.
