The District of Mission is looking for a creative and results-oriented individual who demonstrates strong communication, business acumen and teamwork skills to join our Development Services team.
Reporting to the Director of Development Services, you will be responsible for leading the District’s long range planning functions primarily through the development of programs and related policy. The Manager of the Long Range Planning plays an integral role in guiding growth and development by ensuring the creation of a thriving, inclusive, attractive, vibrant and sustainable community.
This unique opportunity requires you to manage and undertake policy studies and projects involving considerable independent judgment, and the coordination and implementation of all aspects related to land use policy development. The work involves complex urban issues and will be carried out in consultation with internal and external stakeholders including other District departments, governments and agencies, community residents, landowners and business interests.
You will exercise independent judgement in scoping and conceptualizing policy and project work, developing and managing work programs and budgets, planning and implementing public processes, and managing staff and consultants. Some examples of key initiatives include downtown revitalization, waterfront redevelopment, neighbourhood planning, employment lands and affordable housing strategies.
You will possess an open, team-oriented leadership style which promotes continuous improvements in organizational efficiency. It is essential that you are able to develop and maintain positive relationships with a wide variety of internal and external customers and bring a distinguished customer service philosophy to the position.
Your post-secondary education in community planning, business or public administration or a related field, together with general supervisory or management training with a minimum of five years of progressive management experience make you the ideal candidate. Membership or eligibility for membership in PIBC and/or the Canadian Institute of Planners is considered an asset.
