Regular Full Time

One of BC’s Top Employers, the City of Coquitlam is the sixth largest city in BC, home to more than 150,000 residents. Our municipality continues to grow through innovative urban design, inspiring arts, culture and recreation programs, and state-of-the-art transportation systems. Our brand is built on managing our resources in a responsible and sustainable manner, while supporting a vibrant, growing regional urban centre.

The City of Coquitlam is currently recruiting for two regular full-time Bylaw Inspector 1s to join our team of professionals in the Legal and Bylaw Enforcement Division.

Calling upon your independent judgment, action and tact, you will be patrolling City of Coquitlam parks for a variety of bylaw violations including smoking, fire, dogs at large, and dog licence checks. The focus of these patrols will be to educate park users about the City’s bylaws to obtain voluntary compliance, and to enforce those bylaws through ticketing when necessary. You may be required to gather and present evidence at adjudication hearings for disputed tickets and prepare reports pertaining to municipal bylaws.

You have experience in inspection or investigation work and considerable public relations or customer service experience. Completion of the Bylaw 1 course from the Justice Institute of BC (JIBC), or equivalent, is strongly recommended and preference will be given to candidates with animal control experience.  A valid BC Driver’s licence is required. This position is based on a seven (7) hour day with daily hours scheduled between the hours of 6:00 am to midnight, Monday to Sunday inclusive.

The CUPE hourly rate of pay is $29.12 - $34.27 per hour.   Applicants under consideration will be required to consent to a Police Information Check/Vulnerable Sector Check.
