Located next to downtown Victoria, the Township of Esquimalt, with a population of over 17,000, is home to Canada’s Pacific Naval Fleet. The community boasts extensive amenities including beautiful parks and beaches, scenic waterfront walkways as well as modern recreational facilities, schools and commercial services.

The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a motivated individual to fill a full-time regular Lead Groundskeeper position. Reporting to the Parks Supervisor, the lead Groundskeeper plans and Coordinates a variety of functions associated with the maintenance and operation of turf, playing fields, parks and natural areas.  This is skilled work requiring the ability to lead a team of employees, effectively liaise with user groups and provide support for projects and events. 

The ideal candidate will have a diploma in Turf Grass management (2 years) and two years of related experience with a class 5 BC driver’s licence.  Certification for BC Pesticide Applicator and CSA Certified Playground Inspector is an asset.

Other preferred qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of turfgrass, integrated pest and natural systems management practices and restoration techniques;
  • Experience with leading, training and directing skilled and semi-skilled employees; and
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to effectively liaise with parks and facility user groups, contractors, volunteers and the public
  • Operates tractors with turf grass implements and various motorized equipment.
