Our Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services department is looking for a Recreation Leader 2 to join our Outdoor Recreation division. An incumbent directs the implementation of program activities; provides leadership, coaching or instruction; assesses program results and recommends changes as necessary in general programs. Promotes interest and participation in program activities and establishes and maintains close liaison with community groups and the general public; prepares promotional material and addresses various groups relative to program offerings; provides guidance, advice and referrals as required in a given area of recreation specialization to recreation facility users, the public and other staff; reviews program offerings and makes recommendations as to new programs. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of a two year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College and some related experience; St. John's First Aid and CPR Certificates are desirable; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of organized community recreation principles and practices. Sound knowledge of the recreational, social, educational and cultural interests and requirements and resources of the area or Centre served. Ability to recruit, instruct, evaluate and supervise part-time recreational staff and contractual instructors and to recruit, train, direct and evaluate volunteers. Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required. A RCABC Flatwater Instructor Certification with paid RCABC Instructor membership is a desired asset. Wilderness First Aid and respective outdoor certifications are also desired.
