Level 2 Water Treatment and Distribution Operator
Located in the beautiful Southern Gulf Islands, Salt Spring Island is a vibrant, active rural community and a great place to live. The North Salt Spring Waterworks District (NSSWD) serves approximately 5,500 island residents and is currently seeking a permanent full-time EOCP Level 2 Water Treatment and Level 2 Distribution Operator to join our operations team. The NSSWD has a recently completed Class 4 dissolved air floatation water treatment plant and a Class 4 water distribution system comprised of approximately 47 kilometers of water mains, 628 m3 of distribution storage along with multiple pump and pressure regulating stations. The NSSWD also operates six other small water systems under contract.
Reporting to the Waterworks Supervisor, this position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the District’s water treatment plant and distribution systems, in accordance with District policies, bylaws and legislation. The incumbent will be part of a team performing operational and maintenance duties necessary to maintain treated water quality that meets or exceeds all compliance criteria outlined in the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality.
The preferred candidate will have EOCP Water Treatment Level 2 and Water Distribution Level 2 certification, a minimum of four years previous experience in water treatment and distribution, and a diploma in Water Treatment Technology, Water Engineering Technology or equivalent. Candidates with EOCP Level 1 Water Treatment and Level 1 Water Distribution certification and a diploma in Water Treatment Technology, Water Engineering Technology or equivalent may be considered. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System Training (WHMIS), Confined Space, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certification are required. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is also required.
This is a permanent full-time position (40 hours per week) that requires on-call and weekend work on a rotating schedule. The rate of pay will be determined based on qualifications of the candidate selected. In addition, the NSSWD provides an extended health and benefit package.
