This is clerical, manual and custodial work entailing responsibility for the receipt, maintenance, control, storage, and security of a variety of criminal, drug and stolen, seized and found property for the Burnaby RCMP Detachment.  The incumbent of this class works within established guidelines and procedures and is independently responsible for the safekeeping of all exhibits and for controlling the internal and external movement of the same. The incumbent is also responsible for the preparation and maintenance of all related files, records, databases, ledgers, reports, and correspondence related to the exhibits for the Burnaby RCMP Detachment. Assists in packing of drug exhibits for shipment and in the destruction of drug, liquor and dangerous exhibits. Work performed is reviewed and evaluated by a supervisor in terms of efficient clerical and custodial services rendered.  Performs other work as required.

Qualifications for this position include the completion of Grade 12 as well as sound related work experience in general office, clerical, and/or inventory work preferably in a police environment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  The incumbent will require sound knowledge of methods and procedures used in receiving, checking, recording, safekeeping, storing, and controlling the movement of a variety of inventory as well as sound knowledge of the rules, regulations, functions, and objectives governing all the related operations. The successful candidate will possess the ability to manually lift, sort, arrange and store exhibits of varying bulk and weight; to perform clerical and custodial duties under minimal supervision. An incumbent has the ability to use a variety of office equipment as well as proven computer-related skills; experience using software including spreadsheets, databases and word processing software to access and or create spreadsheets is an asset.  Ability to give evidence in Court on all related matters; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, the general public and other various internal and external contacts in providing information and assistance.  Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.  The position must also be able to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.

Hours and shifts are dependent on operational requirements and are scheduled by the department on an as needed basis.  Currently we are looking for people who can help out during our regular operational business hours of Monday to Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm.
