The Coastal First Nations - Great Bear Initiative (CFN-GBI) has an exciting and unique opportunity for a full-time Senior Bookkeeper to join our dynamic team in Vancouver.

About the Coastal First Nations – Great Bear Initiative
The CFN-GBI is a not-for-profit Society established in 2003 that is owned and operated by a unique alliance of First Nations on British Columbia’s North and Central Coast and Haida Gwaii. The alliance includes Wuikinuxv, Heiltsuk, Kitasoo/Xaixais, Nuxalk, Gitga’at, Metlakatla, Old Massett, Skidegate, Gitxaala and the Council of the Haida Nation. The principal goal of this group is to restore and implement ecologically, socially, and economically sustainable resource management approaches on the Central and North Coast and Haida Gwaii. The Opportunity
Reporting to the Finance Coordinator (Controller), for the Great Bear Initiative (GBI) and the Great Bear Business Corporations (GBBC), the primary responsibilities include day-to-day full-cycle bookkeeping activities, administration of payroll and benefits, financial reporting, budget support, assisting with financial management of GBI Projects, and contributing to the preparation of audits. The Senior Bookkeeper will also be responsible for supervising the work of the Accounts Payable and Payroll Administrator.

Required qualifications for the position include completion of post-secondary certification in bookkeeping/financial administration and a minimum of ten years hands-on, full-cycle bookkeeping and project management experience, preferably in a not-for-profit or construction, cross-cultural environment. The successful candidate must also have knowledge of First Nations cultures and how a not-for-profit society operates.

Advanced knowledge and experience using accounting software and technology including Microsoft Office programs (particularly Excel) are essential, as are excellent communication skills, patience, attention to detail, analytical skills, and a reputation as a collaborative problem solver and team player.
