Reporting to the Recreation Clerk 3, this position involves constant contact with the general public and community groups in the operation of a high volume cash handling and customer service desk at Cameron Recreation Complex.  Duties include answering enquiries regarding facilities, recreation programs, rules and regulations, services and special events, and handling complaints.  Other responsibilities include registering patrons using CLASS computerized registration system, handling cash according to departmental policies and procedures and collecting appropriate fees for programs and services, processing payments for facility allotments, compiling, updating and maintaining office records, operating electronic cash register, credit/debit systems and other office equipment. The Recreation Clerk 1 may type correspondence and forms and file documents and reports.  Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12, including or supplemented by commercial and typing courses (30 wpm minimum), plus sound related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of department facilities, programs, booking and registration procedures.  Experience in electronic cash, credit/debit card system and cash handling procedures is desirable, and working knowledge of CLASS computerized registration system is an asset.  Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public; to work as part of a staff team; and to maintain composure under stressful situations. Ability to exercise initiative and make decisions in accordance with applicable guidelines and policies.
