This is clerical work of some variety and complexity involving responding to enquiries regarding traffic violation notices and taking and dispatching complaints of traffic violations. An employee of this class also reviews violation notices for completeness and accuracy, verifies claims of erroneous charges and performs a variety of related clerical tasks. Organizes, prepares and processes documents related to adjudication hearings; informs by-law enforcement officer and forwards documentation to superior and adjudicator; attends hearing to record information. Receives reports of traffic violations from the public and the RCMP; determines nature of the complaint and obtains required information; searches database to determine if reported vehicles have been stolen; dispatches information to by-law enforcement officers or RCMP members as appropriate; refers complaints to other departments and agencies as appropriate. Contacts agencies such as ICBC, the RCMP and collection agencies to exchange information; assigns and cancels court dates for disputed by-law violations and advises individuals concerned. Maintains and updates a variety of files and records related to the work; searches files to obtain and verify information; composes routine correspondence and compiles statistics as required; types a variety of related materials. Assigns and oversees the work of one or more auxiliary employees performing routine clerical tasks. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12, including or supplemented by commercial courses plus sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Considerable knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, by-laws, rules and regulations as they relate to the work performed. Sound knowledge of modern office methods and procedures and business English, spelling, arithmetic and punctuation; and of the violation ticket system. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, staff and external agencies in providing information and explaining related procedures, by-laws, rules and regulations; to make decisions in accordance with applicable rules, policies and procedures and to perform assigned duties with minimal supervision; to assign and oversee the work of one or more auxiliary employees performing routine clerical tasks; to maintain related files and records; and to compose routine correspondence and compile statistics. Skill in the use of a computer software and standard office applications.
